Mobility and Independence

Mobility is about enabling a pupil to realise their potential regarding independent movement.  This could be as simple as encouraging a pupil to explore the area around them through the use of all their senses and adapted mobility aids or as complex as carrying out a journey on public transport independently using long-cane skills.

Our mobility and independence program covers posture and spatial awareness, pre-cane and cane skills, sighted guide skills as well as environmental awareness.  We also teach pupils about road safety, public transportation, personal safety as well as everyday skills such as eating and dressing.
